Asked 3/22/2016 – Dallas, TX

I was in the car on a road trip with a friend I got pulled over while driving for being in th left lane when it was passing only the cop pulled us over and the passenger had a joint under his lap. He pulled us out and I allowed him to search the car he asked if anything else was in there and I said I don’t know I don’t have anything my friend may. He found two more joints in the car and charged us each with paraphernalia even though I told him I didn’t know about it. This was in a county two and half hours away.

Answer

If you don’t address the citation, a warrant will be issued for your arrest and the renewal of your driver’s license can be denied until you resolve the ticket. Yes, you need to contact a local attorney who can help you keep this from becoming a conviction and avoid your appearance in court.
