Asked 4/5/2016 – San Antonio, TX

I wanted to know if I plead no contest not understanding most details on my plea, this being my first offense, am I pretty much stuck with this Decision. I was actually drugged by someone at a bar who I had just met a year ago . He bought me a few shots and I left bar next thing I remember I’m in jail its noon next day and I’m being charged with possession of morphine less than a gram I wanted to fight it but lawyer kept pushing for a decertification which I still don’t understand.

Answer

A plea of no contest on your pending case has no effect on your ability to file charges against anyone. From what you describe, however, I’m not sure what charges could be filed on any other person. Do not enter into any plea until you fully understand the consequences and obligations of the plea agreement. If your attorney can’t or won’t explain everything to you to your satisfaction, get another attorney.
