Asked 4/11/2016 – Houston, TX

My fiance is being held in a county jail on charges in Texas and has a hold on him from another state. The charges here in Texas have a bond. I have been told if I bond him out the other state will have 10 days to come get him.

Answer

Are his charges in the other State felony or misdemeanor? Has he signed any extradition papers? Have you talked with an attorney about his case here in Texas AND with an attorney in the State where his other charges are pending to find out what his options are? Your fiancee has multiple charges pending against him, and is looking at a long, difficult, EXPENSIVE process. Your first reaction is to get him out of jail as soon as you can, whatever it takes. If you bond him out, however, the Court may take the position that, “If you found the money to get out of jail, you can find the money to hire your own attorney.” Invest in some advice first to see what you are looking at.
