Asked 4/12/2016 – Beaumont, TX

My boyfriend has been in jail ever since January awaiting trial for a crime he committed nearly two years ago, but they keep resetting his court date. So, he’s trying to see if they would place him on house arrest before his trial. Isn’t house arrest an option for anyone, or does it depend on the crime?

Answer

Your boyfriend’s attorney can make the request for “house arrest”. This is a condition of bond: a telephone land line will generally be required at the home where the defendant will reside and the defendant must bear the costs of the ankle monitor which can be several hundred dollars per month. Talk with his attorney about the specifics.
