Asked 4/20/2016 – Dallas, TX

I moved into a home to take care of an elderly man and his girlfriend assaulted me when he let me come to get my possessions. Once she assaulted me she called nine-one-one and I was arrested for assault now I’m still trying to reclaim my possessions and she is refusing to give me back my property what do I do

Answer

Do NOT attempt to go and retrieve the items yourself. Prepare a written list of the things you want back, then contact the local constable in the precinct where the house is located to see if you can be escorted to the premises, then have the constable go into the house and retrieve the items. Explain to the constable that you used to live at the house, and all you want is to get your property back. If that doesn’t work, you’ll have to retain an attorney.
