I bailed out my brother and co-signed on his bail. He missed his court date, but I was able to bring him in and he was arrested. 2 years later a lawyer calls and says I’m being sued for $1000 in court fees. So far nothing is in writing.

You may be sued by the bond company if you were a co-signer on the bond, and the bond was forfeited due to your brother’s failure to appear in court as directed. You don’t have to pay any money yet, and a lot will depend on if and when your brother’s case is disposed of and how much money the bond company as to pay due to the bond forfeiture.
