My boyfriend was arrested twice for violation of protective order and domestic violence with my 6 month old around. The first time pictures of my face were taken. The second time was just a statement from both myself and my neighbor. He was on probation both times he got arrested so I know this is a violation. But he had a controlled substance problem. Can I help him get help? Other than prison time or is he looking at prison no matter what? I know both times he was arrested he doesn’t really remember. But can I help in any way to get him less time? He’s been in a county for a few months and his court date seems to always get rescheduled to a further date? Can I change my statement? Please help. I just want to get him help and better.
Answer
First, please realize YOU cannot help your boyfriend; he is the only one who can decide that he needs help, then reach out, try find it and get better. You cannot make him get better and you cannot take on his sobriety or his anger management issues. How his cases are resolved will be up to his attorney, the district attorney assigned to his case and the Judge. Please realize that you have gone from being afraid of him to the point where a protective order was issued, to the point where you have you have asked in an open forum if you should change your statement and risk criminal prosecution yourself to protect him. Please, focus on your child, protect yourself, remain faithful to the truth and let the process play out.
