Asked 5/16/2016 – Texarkana, TX

My son has been in jail since March 26 served his 30 days for a hot check and here it is May 15th and he is still there doing dead time. Supposedly waiting on parole to make a decision. He is nonviolent criminal. All charges in past drug related. For the first time in 13 years and had a great paying job and was helping out with his son. I’ve spike to his parole officer, basically he talked in circles. What can be done about this situation? Thank you

Answer

There is no bond on a parole hold, so unfortunately, your son will have to wait on his revocation hearing to see if and when he is released. Since he was found guilty on a new case while out on parole, I would not get my hopes up for his release. The terms of his parole was for him not to commit any new offenses; it is not OK for him to be convicted of “just” non-violent crimes.
