Back in September of last year my than boyfriend was involved in a car accident and was arrested for suspicion of DWI. Well I cosigned bond for him even though I live on a fixed income. Now we have split up and in April he got another charge of suspicion of DWI which I never cosigned on that bond. I get a call from the bondsman wanting to know where he’s at because he never has filled out paperwork or paid anything on his second bond. I have no clue where he’s at I’ve got a new relationship and haven’t spoken to him in almost two months. Their saying I could go to jail because I’m responsible for the bond.

Answer

1) You will not go to jail. Bond companies to not have the power to issue warrants. 2) You do not have to pay for the second bond. You did not make any contractual agreement on the new case, so you have no liability. 3) You MAY need an attorney IF you are sued on the 1st bond. If your ex does not appear in court for the case you co-signed the bond on, you are liable for the bond amount.
