Asked 5/18/2016- Austin, TX

I became homeless in Travis County and I told my parole officer that I had a travel trailer in another county. He told me I needed to find me a place to live so I left county a few days later to get trailer. I got stuck in said county due to financial reasons. I called my po before our home visit as i was staying with friends. He tells me I am in violation already because I asked to transfer my residence to another county where I would have a definite place to stay at his family’s house. Can he violate me?

Answer

When your parole officer told you to find a place to live, did he/she tell you it was alright for you to go to another county, or did you decide to leave the county on your own, figuring it was the only way for you to find a place to live (but didn’t tell the PO you were leaving the county). If you had permission, you should be fine. If you left the county without permission, you are in violation and a revocation could be filed.
