Asked 5/18/2016 – Austin, TX

I was arrested for family assault. An attorney posted bail; can I replace the money he posted for bail and get my own attorney? Thanks!

Answer

You may retain whatever attorney you wish, regardless of the status of the bond. The attorney you retain must file a motion to substitute counsel, but that is a relatively simple matter. Good luck.
