Asked 5/20/2016 – Dallas, TX

My daughter is in Dallas county Jail. She called me and said that a guard pulled her out of the tank to have a “talk” with her and told my daughter she was going to “slap the sh*t” out of her if she didn’t change her attitude. I understand some guards there may be on power trips but is this normal? Is there anyone at the jail I could call? I’m just really worried about her being assaulted

Answer

I understand you are worried about the situation your daughter is in, but understand she is in jail for a reason. Her actions are what put her there, and she has to figure out how to get through this. I don’t know who said what or who did what, but this is not a situation where Momma can call the teacher and fix a problem from the playground. Focus on her criminal case and her actions. She is never going to like the way she is being talked to while in jail; with all this being said, however, your daughter still has her civil rights, and if she is physically assaulted, make sure her attorney is notified, and a complaint can be filed with the Sheriff’s Department as well.
