Got a ticket for dwli. I owed a surcharge for like 135, I thought I paid it off years ago. I don’t know what the (e) stands for but will this be a violation of probation? I can’t afford to hire a lawyer either. I have to go to justice of peace court.

Answer

You will have to review your probation order, but as a general rule, a violation of any federal, state or local law is a violation of probation. The type of case you are on probation for is also a factor in whether this new citation would a motion to revoke your probation to be filed. For example, if you are on probation for murder, I would doubt your probation officer would file a revocation over a ticket. If you are on probation for a speeding case, however, the DWLI probably would cause a violation. You also really should contact a local attorney about this new citation. A conviction will cause additional surcharges and a potential license suspension as well.
