Do I have to pay a civil demand received by Walmart due to shop lifting?

I have received a civil demand from Walmart. I have to pay $150. I got caught shop lifting at Walmart under $100. I am a student. I am under 18. This was a big mistake. Pls advice what is the worst case scenario?

Answer

No, you do not have to pay the civil demand. The store has the right to file a civil case against you, but that never occurs. If you receive a citation from a court or police department, contact a local attorney; otherwise, go and sin no more.
