Asked 7/16/2016 – New Boston, TX

My friend is in prison in the state of Texas. He has made several requests to get a copy of his original transcript of his case to no avail. He needs it because he is working in his 1107.

Answer

A request for transcript of proceedings must be filed with the court. The court reporter will then make an estimated Bill of Costs, which states the amount of money which must be deposited into the registry of the court before the transcript will be prepared. If the defendant cannot pay the costs, an affidavit of inability to pay may be filed, and the Court can rule on whether to waive the fees incurred in producing the transcript. How and when your friend made these requests may be affecting the situation.
