Asked 7/21/2016 – Corsicana, TX

So I shoplifted with a friend. They caught us. We stole makeup together. I’m pretty sure we stole about $80 worth of makeup. An officer came and arrested us. Walmart gave us a number to call to receive some letter. I did my probation & paid for probation fees. I also did community service. 6 months of probation. My probation officer told me to wait for about two years till I turned 17. She gave me the date and gave me attorney names. My real question is, what are they going to make me do? Do I need a lawyer? I currently have no job because of my record & my friend has one somehow! I don’t talk to her anymore.

Answer

If you were 15 at the time of the offense, this was a juvenile matter and employers should not see any record of the case (so that should not be the reason for your employment problems). Certain agencies, however, have access to juvenile records, so if you want the matter sealed, you will need an attorney. Make the phone call and find out your options.
