What is a Federal Violation and how can I found out what the charge is?

My brother got arrested for a federal violation yet we do not know what the federal violation is since he has not been charged with one.

Answer

In order to be charged with a criminal violation, the Government must allege the specific law that the defendant supposedly violated. If your brother has a federal violation, it means he is charged with violating a federal statute instead of a state law. Contact an attorney who practices FEDERAL criminal defense, and you can get some help.
