Asked 7/28/2016 – Houston, TX

My co-workers and I stole about $3200 there’s no excuse and we truly needed the money. Saying that we live in the state of Texas, when I asked about us stealing we were honest and confessed to everything we did fake returns and kept the money but no merchandise was missing. The lady from the retail store from loss prevention told us we would be in suspension and we will hear from her soon and also gave our written statement of what we did to the cops and the cops said the theft department will get back to us as well what is more than likely to happen next if we both left home that day of the investigation.

Answer

Theft of property valued over $2,500 but less than $30,000 is a state jail felony, punishable by a fine of up to $10,000, confinement in a state jail facility from 180 days to 2 years, or a maximum probationary period for up to 5 years. Criminal charges will be filed, a warrant will issue and you will be arrested. Your case will be filed with the appropriate court and you will have the right to plead not guilty and have a trial or enter into some type of plea bargain arrangement. Talk with a local criminal defense attorney soon.
