A 15 year old girl had a secret relationship with a 22 year old man because the mother disapproved of the man. When the girl turned 16 she started exploring sexual behavior with the now 23 year old man culminating on them having sex and getting pregnant. The mother found out and made sure to end the relationship only to find out that the guy also knowingly is spreading STDs all around the city and infected her daughter. Because of the legal statues of their residency they never reported it to the police and are being constantly stalked and threaten by the now 24 year old man to take away the kid and deport them if they don’t let him keep seeing and having sexual relationship with the now 17 year old girl. In secret the girl now keeps seeing the guy when the mother is working which has resulted in her almost getting pregnant again.
So can an individual outside of the family report this to the police so that the family doesnt get into trouble with the law themselves?
Can the state press charges against the man even though the girl doesn’t want to report it even after she already gave birth to the child?

Answer

Yes, the State has the ability to file criminal charges over the objections of any potential complaining witness or victim. If they are going to continue the relationship, the couple should get married; it won’t bar criminal prosecution, but will reduce the drama level
