Asked 7/30/2016 – Richmond, TX

3/5/98: Sentenced in court 006 starting 3/5/98
3/5/98: Conviction-Nolo Contendere
3/5/98 Fine $400.00
3/5/98: Harris County Jail 3 days ( I did not spend any time in jail)
On 8/24/09 I went to the Court to get a copy of the charge and on the back, Loren Jackson, District Clerk wrote this: Deferred Adjudication of guilt terminated, defendant charged, case dismissed defendant completed community supervision and a dismissal and discharge may not be deemed a conviction (felony or misdemeanor) for the purposes of disqualification disabilities imposed by law for conviction of an offense. What does this mean? I own a rifle and a shotgun for hunting but I also want to get my concealed handgun license. Please Help!

Answer

If there was a finding of family violence, you will not be able to obtain a CHL. If no such finding was made, you may apply for the license. Go to the Texas Department of Public Safety for specific requirements on obtaining a concealed handgun license.
