Asked 8/4/2016 – Fort Worth, TX

I am currently on a 2 year deferred adjudication probation for credit card abuse that will be reduced to a misdemeanor granted that I complete probation with the terms given. I was given 360 hours of community service in which I’ve completed 150 hours. I have 7 months left and think I’ve messed up big time. There was recently a death in the family and without thinking I left the county. I got a speeding ticket that made me realize that I’d just messed up. I’ve paid all of my court fees, attorney fees, restitution fees, etc. with the exception of $200 probation fees. I just got promoted at work and starting school in the fall. I don’t do drugs and I report every month like I’m supposed to do. How badly did I just messed up??

Answer

You should be OK. Retain an attorney to represent you on the speeding citation to make sure that matter is not reported as a conviction. Pay off all the fees due to probation, and then contact your attorney about early termination of your probation. You will not go to jail or need your attorney prior to that unless a motion to revoke your probation is filed, which is unlikely.
