Answer
Surcharges are imposed by the Department of Public Safety as a tax on your driver’s license after convictions are reported for certain offenses. Fines are imposed by municipal and justice courts as punishment after being found guilty of an offense. Two separate and distinct things, If you did not pay the fine to the court by the time specified, a warrant would have been issued. Contact the court, not the DPS, about removing the warrant paying the fine. You will still have to pay the surcharges to the DPS as well. Call a lawyer next time before you go to court.
