Asked 9/22/2016 – Dallas, TX

I just moved to TX after 21 years and just received a letter from an attorney’s office saying they were hired by the City of El Paso for a speeding and parking ticket from 1995. Can I ignore these? Or what would be my best course of action? I live in Dallas, now…

Answer

It depends on whether the city of El Paso filed parking tickets as a civil or a criminal offense in 1995. If they were civil matters in 1995, you can probably ignore the requests. If the matter was filed as a criminal charge and the proper documentation was filed with the court, a warrant may have been issued and will remain outstanding until the fine is paid or you are arrested. Call an attorney in El Paso and discuss your options.
