Asked 9/22/2016 – Dallas, TX

signed deferred adjudication in Collin county Texas on Sept 16th,2016. I reside in Dallas county, so when I signed everything with probation they automatically transferred me to Dallas county. They gave me 3 months of mail in papers and informed me to contact them in 60 days if I haven’t heard from them. I want to be as proactive with my other requirements but can’t really do much until I see my probation officer apparently as far as community service and stuff. My question is does anyone have any knowledge on about how long they typically take to complete the transfer and contact me to come in? I know it varies, just trying to get a roundabout idea. Thanks in advance

Answer

There is really no way to tell how long the probation transfer will take, but you are wise in the approach you are taking in this matter. If you have not revived reporting instructions for Dallas in the next 2 months, you physically go to the Collin County Probation Department to report, and get documentation that you appeared. Every attorney has had clients end up in jail on a probation violation for failure to report where the defense is: “I was waiting to for my probation to be transferred to the county where I live and I never heard anything, so I did not report anywhere. I did not know where to go”. Collin County retains jurisdiction of your case, and you are under the obligation to report monthly.
