I just found out I have a capias warrant for failure to appear in traffic court in the City of Katy, Texas from 2009 and my driver’s license recently expired (I rarely get pulled over and am horrible about updating my address, so I literally had no clue until I got into a fender bender and the Sherriff explained it to me and told me where to call). I have no other identification on my person, other than my company ID and need some form of ID to carry with me at all times. I know for certain I am ineligible to renew my driver’s license until I pay my fines and surcharges, however, would it be possible to get an ID card (would be in a different county)? I have attempted to make payment arrangements, but the City of Katy is notorious for wanting full payment in one lump sum and really aren’t fond of having you “sit your ticket out”. If you have a warrant outstanding for your arrest, you are subject to detention upon contact with any law enforcement official. This includes the Department of Public Safety, no matter what county and no matter for what reason. Clear up the warrants before you apply for either your license or ID.
