Asked 8/4/17 – Dallas, TX

I’m trying to expunge a record myself (without a lawyer) and am unsure where to get the forms to do so. I’ve already been told I’m eligible to apply for expunction. The county clerk told me the files are usually drawn up by lawyers but can also be found elsewhere- but I’m not sure where that is. I have tried to look online but I want to make sure what I fill out is legitimate and will work.

Answer

Go to the Dallas County Website. The District Clerk will have a drop-down menu for criminal forms, and you will find guidelines for filing a petition for expunction. Be advised, however, that you only get one bite at this apple; if this petition is denied; you cannot re-file and try again. Good luck.
