Assault case was dismissed, im wanting to get copies of both police reports and witness statements.

Answer

You are entitled to certain portions of the report without a subpoena or court order. Certain sections are blacked out, which the State has the right to do; generally this is to conceal identifying information about witnesses. This is done to avoid intimidation, harassment and potential injury to witnesses of a crime. You may be able to get an UN-redacted copy, but you will have to explain to a Judge why you need it.
