Asked 1/28/2016 – Granbury, TX

Was in a car accident nearly 3 years ago. Driving friends car whom apparently didn’t have insurance and my insurance wouldn’t cover damages to vehicle, there were no bodily injuries to anyone in other vehicle, I was the only one with hospital bills. Needles to say license has since been suspended as September 2015. Not sure where to begin at getting it reinstated.

Answer

Talk to a local attorney about obtaining an occupational license. If there is a judgment against you for an accident you were at fault for while you did not have insurance, the DPS will not lift the suspension until the judgment is paid or until the DPS receives notification that a payout agreement has been reached between you and the person who holds the judgment. Bankruptcy may be an option, but it may be more expensive and be a more drawn out process than the occupation license.
