Asked 1/28/2016 – Dallas, TX

If I move to Texas from Missouri will I be required to register as a sex offender. I have a SIS and according to Missouri law once probation is over it is not considered a conviction. It is for statutory sodomy. Missouri requires lifetime registration. Thanks

Answer

The general answer is yes. If you move to Texas, a probation office in Texas will require you to do everything a Missouri probation office would have you do. The question of lifetime registration depends on the correlation the offense you were convicted of in Missouri and the corresponding law in Texas. An attorney licensed in Missouri would be the first person to ask these questions to.
