Asked 2/1/2016 – Houston, TX

I was charged with official oppression in the state of Texas, this is a class A misdemeanor. My background shows the conviction as a felony and not a misdemeanor. I was deceived, and now the attorney that represented me in the case is not responding. What can I do? and how is the DA able to do that?

Answer

You may go to the court where your case was filed and obtain a copy of the judgment entered in your case. That judgment will reflect if the case was a felony or misdemeanor and the disposition of the case. Then find out which service performed the background check you are questioning, and see if those records accurately reflect the judgment.
