Asked 2/1/2016 – El Paso, TX

I recently received a letter of suspension to turn in my license. Effective date 20th of February

I was reading online that this usually doesn’t occur for first time violations

I live in Texas, but received this ticket in California by mail. For speeding. I also receive a ticket here in El Paso for failing to show proof of insurance. Shortly after my speeding incident. Which I wasn’t able to pay either.

So my questions are do I have any options anymore to avoid my suspension?

Answer

Depends on the reason for the suspension (there are about 20 different ones). Tickets are not reported to the DPS immediately when they are issued by the police. Tickets are reported to the DPS by a court, either after you have been found guilty or after you have failed to appear. If you have been found guilty, you are out of luck. If you failed to appear, a local attorney may be able to assist you. Contact an attorney to determine the cause of the suspension and go from there.
