Asked 2/2/2016 – Dallas, TX
I received a few tickets about a year ago for an expired registration and no insurance. At the time my circumstances were very ‘unique’ and I simply didn’t have any money.
Long story short, my drivers license was suspended due to not paying my fines and not contacting the court. I realize this was a BIG mistake on my part and a very immature way to handle my citation(s).
I intend on writing a letter to the judge explaining my circumstances and asking for leniency on the fine.
My question is, are there any lawyers on here who would be willing to look over my letter of pleading? I can cut and paste you an email or send a copy to your practice. Thanks in advance for any replies.
Answer
I suggest you contact a local attorney to determine exactly what your status is, and what needs to be done. Your handling of these matters on your own placed you in this situation, and please realize, this is not reality TV. For example, if judgments have already been entered ion your case, there is nothing the Judge can do, regardless of whatever letter you send. Are your problems with the court where your citations are pending or are they with the DPS? The system can be confusing, so invest in a phone call first so a game plan can be developed.
