A police officer showed up at my door after 9PM to inform me that I do not own the street parking in front of my home (which I already knew) and that if I continued to leave notes on vehicles parked there that I could possibly be arrested for harassment and destruction of someone property. I placed notes on vehicles parked in front of my home under the windshield wiper. No damage done. There was never a note placed on the same car twice. The tone of the note may indicate anger but there was never a threat made. I explained that I shouldn’t have to park in front of anyone else’s home or block my own driveway when I only have 2 vehicles. That’s all the notes said and now I’m being threatened with harassment charges.

The police will not sue you, but they can file criminal charges against you. The exact charge and whether you would be found guilty or not is undetermined, but you were told by a police officer NOT to do a certain act. If you continue to disobey a police officer, where do you think this will lead? If you feel the officer is being overbearing, contact his superior and file a complaint. If you choose to defy the officer’s instructions, then expect the situation to escalate and you ending up in front of a Judge.
