Asked 2/12/2016 – Plano, TX

I was driving with a friend last night and got pulled over. I got a ticket for driving on a suspended license (in california) and he got arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and was given a ticket. The marijuana in the car was actually mine and I was never given the option to say so, they just arrested him and told me the reason for it until they were ready to send me on my way home. On top of it all they never read him his rights and they searched the car completely without any consent.

Answer

It sounds like your friend has more than just a ticket, so he definitely will need an attorney. Who the officer arrested and what that person is charged with is up to the discretion of that officer, so there really isn’t someone you could just call or sit down and talk with to change what happened. Your friend will have to appear in court and maybe his attorney can arrange something with the district attorney. Contact a local attorney as soon as you can so you can start the process of helping your friend.
