Asked 2/13/2016 – San Antonio, TX

I have an old speeding ticket from 2009 in Texas when I used to live in San Antonio. Before I moved i tried to pay the ticket but lost citation, and they did not have me in any of there records when i called so I assumed that was that. fast forward to 2016 I received a letter from a lawyer service ( I believe the county outsourced the fine ) stating I had a warrant and a fine of $500 for speeding and another fine for failure to maintain proof of financial responsibility for $600. I’m not even sure what that 2nd one is. I double checked the bexar county website after i received this letter and sure enough it was there. I have no way to prove that i attempted to pay this back in 2009 when i moved to another state. ‘m not sure what my options are. Is this something I can settle with the autonomy? something I can fight for less than the cost of the $1100.

Answer

Failure to maintain financial responsibility is a no insurance ticket. Do NOT just pay that citation, because a conviction may cause the suspension of your driver’s license, even though you have moved out of state. Contact a local attorney who can post bonds to remove the warrants and help you with the case, certainly for far less than the fines on tickets
