Asked 2/20/2016 – San Antonio, TX

My son parked his car at an apartment complex to visit a friend. His car was towed and there are absolutely no signs saying he can’t park there. There are no tow company signs either. Is this legal? I hear it’s a set up and they do this to students on a regular basis. Please advise. Thank you in advance.

Answer

The apartment complex parking lot is considered private property. I do not know the specifics with regards to your son’s case, but generally visitors will have to park in designated visitor parking spots or obtain a temporary parking decal from office management. The apartment management office should have written procedures about visitor’s parking. Obtain a copy and if you feel they did not follow their own policy, contact a local attorney.
