Asked 2/27/2016 – Houston, TX

In April of 2015 I was charged with first offense DWI. In September of 2015 I plead guilty and received 1 year probation which included fines, classes, community service, and a smart start breathalyzer in my vehicle. I completed the fines, classes, and community service. I have since been laid off and have an employment opportunity out of the state of Texas and requires national travel with utilization of rental cars and various company vehicles.

Answer

You must obtain an order from the Court which allows you to remove the Smart Start from your car and enables you to replace it with a Soberlink or other comparable device, but yes, what you are asking can be done. Contact the attorney who handled your DWI and you should be able to get it done fairly easily.
