Asked 3/11/2016 – Houston, TX

My girlfriend confessed something to me that she has never confessed to anybody else about her childhood. She was raped when she was 3 years old by her uncle and aunt and again when she was 13 by her adoptive fathers friend who still comes around.

Answer

There is no statute of limitations on aggravated sexual assault cases as you describe {See Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Article 12.01 and Texas Penal Code 22.011}. At the very least, your girlfriend needs to begin counseling. I don’t know how old she is, and how much time has passed so I can’t speculated on how law enforcement would treat her claims, but she is obviously carrying baggage from her childhood which needs to be addressed.
