Asked 8/18/2016 – Dallas, TX

So, I have been talk with this guy for 12 days, and he is 27. I think I may like him, and it is obvious he likes me. We text almost every minute of the day, unless we both have something we are doing. He leaves on the other side of the world. He said he is willing to wait for me till I get older, but I am not sure. What are your thoughts on this? Do you think it will ever happen? What if we date, now? Do you think he will really wait for me? I am willing to listen to opinions. Thank you very much.

Answer

No. Any sexual contact between a 14 year old and a 27 year old is illegal. See Texas Penal Code Section 22.011 – Sexual Assault and Section 22.11 – Indecency with a Child. The age of consent in Texas is 17. As a man who has daughters and granddaughters, my opinion is that in no way is it appropriate for a 27 year old to date a 14 year old. You should not entertain any ideas about this person. You have never met him, you do not know what he is truly like, and you have no idea what his intentions are towards you If his intentions were honorable, he would have stopped all communications with you when he discovered your age (if he is willing to break the law in this manner, what else is he willing to break the law about?). Calm down and wait until your time comes. Once you become of age, you will have the rest of your life having to deal with men. Don’t rush it.
