Can a 17 year old legally date a 24 year old?

I live in Dallas TX and I recently started talking to a 24 year old, and I was just wondering if it is legal for me to date him? Can my parents call the cops on him? Or will he be in any trouble? We are not having sex, we are just dating, and I wanted to make sure it was safe for us to date under the law. Please explain thoroughly.

Answer

If there is no sexual contact, there is nothing illegal about your relationship. You are not an adult, however, until you turn 18, and until you reach that age and graduate from high school, your parents still have responsibility for you and can legally restrict your contacts.
