So I am the victim in a criminal case. I spoke with a detective and she wants me to come in again for another meeting. During the first interview I allowed her to go through my phone and see messages between me and the defendant. There were messages in there she wanted me to screen shot and send to her that would be incriminating to the defendant. I however do not want to press charges and want the situation out of my hair.
Answer
As a courtesy, you may call the detective and inform her you do not want to pursue this matter. It will be up to the detective on whether a case will be filed or not. You are not under any obligation to provide any materials to the police until you are ordered to by a court. Please note that if decide not to pursue this matter, and if you and the defendant have any future problems, law enforcement will probably not be as interested to get involved. Please decide wisely.
