Asked 3/14/2016 – Pasadena, TX

I got a call from an officer this morning and didn answer. She left a message saying my name came up in something she was investigating and to call her back. I have an idea about she’s talking about and I know people say to not answer questions or talk to cops unless I have a lawyer but what happens if I don’t ever respond to her? Even if she shows up at my home, what other steps will be taken if I just ignore her?

Answer

You have no obligation to talk with law enforcement. They are investigating a crime and gathering evidence. Whether this evidence is being gathered against you, I don’t know. If it is, and the police have enough evidence to charge your with an offense without your statement, a case will be filed and a warrant for your arrest will issue. Do NOT talk about the facts of this matter on the internet; police monitor social media. Conferring with an attorney isn’t a bad idea.
