Asked 2/20/2016 – Dallas, TX

I was recently released off deferred adjucation and was wanting to purchase a fire arm but before I do i want to know if i would even pass the background check.

Answer

It depends on the charge you were placed on deferred adjudication for, and the finding made at the time of the judgment. If there was a finding of family violence, for example, you will never be able to legally possess a firearm, even thought the case was dismissed through deferred adjudication. Contact the attorney who negotiated your original plea.
