Asked 8/15/2016 – San Antonio, TX

I had just pulled up in a park after hours I was there for about 1 minute when a cop pulled up behind my car. She was rude when asking me questions to what I was doing there and kept telling me that I would get a $500 fine. She asked me for my license and insurance and took it back to her car and when she came back she was being nice but told me that I would get something in the mail. I’m not sure what she said this is my first time ever being stopped by a cop but she did not give me an actual ticket is it possible to get one in the mail? She also knew that I just pulled up in the park because she had said she was on the other side talking to a bunch of underage boys who were also there when she saw me pull up.

Answer

Is it possible for you to receive a citation in the mail? Yes, although I do not know why one was not issued to you at the scene, if a ticket was going to be written. The $500 dollars the officer was talking about is the maximum punishment for a class c misdemeanor, like being in a park after hours. If and when you receive a citation, contact a local attorney about your options.
