Asked 3/28/2016 – San Antonio, TX

I am 17 y/o in Texas. What should I do now. The school police took me into custody a half block from school, because school had just started (I was running late) drove me to school and drug me down the main hallway in handcuffs. They drug me into their police station and charged me with felony retaliation and drug me off to county jail. Never contacted my parents, neither did the school. No indictment yet. School refused to give me copy of hall video/audio recordings.

Answer

It is mandatory you attend high school in Texas until you graduate or until your 19th birthday, so yes, the police can force a 17 year old off the street in into school. How you reacted to the detention is the subject of the criminal action. You will need an attorney to address the criminal issue, so contact a local lawyer soon.
