I admitted to smoking marijuana (occasionally), but never failed a drug test. I don’t think that’s fair at all.
Our court appointed lawyer is useless.

Answer

Who would “they” be who is making you attend drug counseling?. I will make some assumptions. First, since you have a court appointed attorney, you have a pending criminal case against you. Second, you made an admission to a court official to committing another criminal offense (possessing marijuana), while this criminal case is pending. Third, as a result of this admission, your bond conditions (or probation) were modified to include drug counseling. You do not have to accept the drug counseling. You can just go to jail instead. Your lawyer is not the issue.
