Asked 6/23/2016 – Houston, TX

I was a cashier and I had my husband come through my line multiple amounts of times to get baby items for our new baby and Walmart called me to the office unexpectedly on a day that he didn’t even come and they talked and made jokes then broke it down to me why I’m really in the office I admitted to what I did but and wrote a confession on paper and signed it and three management that were in the room also signed it and I was terminated and walked out of the building I just want to know what will happen from here can they put me in jail? Or fine me

Answer

On theft cases, the value of the items stolen determine the severity of the charge. If the total amount of the property allegedly stolen was over $100, then yes, you are subject to being arrested and jail time is possible as a part of the sentencing on that level of theft case. Start talking with a local attorney soon.
