Asked 2/22/2016 – Conroe, TX

Boyfriend was pulled over for third tail light being out (light in the window). Was convicted of a felony for obstruction of evidence because the cop said he ate weed. He didn’t and wasn’t given any other tickets. We don’t have a lot of money but are scared the court appoint attorney won’t do much.

Answer

Court appointed attorneys are licensed by the State Bar of Texas and are as qualified as any other group of attorneys. You must be comfortable with the attorney your boyfriend selects, and believe whatever advice that attorney gives you is in your boyfriend’s best interest. You should be able to have a consultation with local attorneys for little or no money. No lawyer can make a guarantee on the outcome of a case, but speak to as many as you need to in order to feel comfortable.
