Asked 3/22/2016 – Beaumont, TX

I did something silly. I was talking to someone online they were posing as an adult. i sent some intimate pics 1st. Then when they sent me a pic i told them they looked too young and i asked did they have an ID. Then all of a sudden they were saying they where a minor and they where going to report me to the police.

Answer

Yes, you COULD be charged with a crime, depending on the nature of the picture and totality of the correspondence. Remember that ALL internet correspondence is public, not just a private conversation between two people. Train your mind that whatever you send is being reviewed by your spouse, grandmother, priest, news media, judge and jury. Would you have sent that picture to your local Fox affiliate? Or Father Brown? Or to Beaumont PD? It was a silly mistake is not a defense in a criminal action. I do not know what will happen in your case, but from now on, use your mind for higher pursuits.
