Asked 8/15/2016 – Houston, TX

I got two tickets that I went to court for. I plead to contest and got a fine because I did have insurance at the time I was pulled over and was able to register my vehicle in time. I didn’t have money at the time due to no job, and when the time came to pay the deferred payment I was still out of a job. I didn’t the wrong thing and let it get bad. It went from a 170$ fine to a 675$ pain for a silly mistake! Not to mention the surcharge/suspension of my license. So that’s another 253$ a year! So I guess what I want to know is if I can do anything to handle this in the less expensive way that also doesn’t require jail time and causes me to be unemployed again.

Answer

If you have entered a plea of guilty or no contest on the cases, there is nothing you can do. If no plea has been entered, however, a local attorney can post bonds to remove the warrants, set your cases for court, and then see what can be done to keep these cases from becoming convictions.
